Binoculars up to $100 suggestions please

Hello,

my neighbour is looking to spend up to $100 on bino's.

does anyone have any suggestions? it is solely for astro use.

I note that Andrews has a quite a few under a hundred, and the celestron cometron (7x50) gets a pretty good wrap (although would need to be bought o/s and delivered).

recommendations would be appreciated.

cheers

Rusty

7x50 is pretty much an optimum size.

Any larger and they get too heavy to hold for long, requiring a stand; more magnification and handheld is too shaky - definitely need a stand.

Russell, the 8x60s would give you a massive 7.5mm exit pupil - are you sure you're going to be able to take advantage of that at night? (if not, you'll be reducing the effective aperture, e.g. if your pupil only expands to 6mm, then they'll be working like an 8x48 pair).
