A couple of dslr summer friendly targets

Hi everyone,

Here are a couple of quick targets from the other week.

Great for people using dslr's in the heat of the summer as only short exposure times are required.

NGC 3242, ghost of Jupiter planetary nebula in Hydra. Bright and small, I have a couple of heavily cropped versions. difficult to know how to process this one.

NGC 4755, jewel box cluster, of course the famous open cluster in Crux. always a beautiful sight https://www.flickr.com/photos/803366...ream/lightbox/

I've been awaiting on a light pollution to arrive since about mid December so hoping to have that up and running with my new RCC I etc approaching the next new moon. Also picked up Ha and OIII filters so some experimentation ahead.

Clear skies

Rusty

Nice detail in both images Rusty. Are these single subs or have they been stacked and processed?

hi Rodney,

Thanks for that mate, these were from memory small stacks of about 16-20 subs each. Ghost sub length was about 25 seconds @ iso 400 so not much data at all really and would make a good target on an alt azimuth mount.

simple processing in photoshop, predominantly high pass sharpening (ghost only) and upping the saturation.

Cheers

Rusty

thanks Marc,

I might go back and tidy up the Ghost of Jupiter pics a bit more, there is plenty of hot pixels and the stars could be fixed.

These are heavy heavy crops its a tiny target so nice to get some detail.

Lovely shots Rusty.

What was the scope? I've forgotten what you normally use.
