Steel pipe for piers - expressions of interest sought

Hi,

I've sourced some carbon steel pipe from which I intend to build a pier. It comes in a minimum 6m length so I'm seeking interested parties who might like the other 3 x 1500mm lengths I'll have left over after I take my bit.

At this stage I've just got an indicative price on some 168.3mm outside diameter pipe with a wall thickness of 7.1mm. As a 6m seamless length is costs $340 + GST or as welded it's a steel (!) at $257 + GST. I'll probably also get some base and tops plates as well as buttresses at the same time.

They can also supply larger diameter but I thought I'd just just an idea if anyone's interested before I finalise prices etc.

I'm located in Melbourne so you will need to be too.

cheers

Niko... a steel supplier worth his salt should be prepared to cut to length and often has off cuts in lengths typical of piers. Also check out 'hollow bar' it is seamless, typically high grade (metalurgy) and should be cut to length, the wall thicknesses available vary from the domain of high pressure pipe up to battleship gun stock. charged by the kg.
