It is hard for me to reconcile Australia Day with the blizzard that is approaching my home. The weather experts are forecasting 20-30 inches (50-75 cm) of snow over the next 24 hours or so...big snow, big wind, big headache.
We expect to lose electricity but fortunately have a back-up generator ready to go...we should be fine for the duration of the storm.
Today the ABC news had an indepth story about it - many places will have bans on driving on the roads at certain times so snow ploughs can clear the roads for peak hour traffic. People are preparing for a big one.
Well, I hate to complain about the weather considering what you're about to get ... but ... it's hard for me to reconcile January with the weather we are having. It's rained more often than not so far this year. It was raining when I went to bed, it's rained non-stop since I got up at 6.30 and it's expected to rain (at least a bit) every day for the next week. Today won't get above 21C and 25 is as good as it will get this week. So far this summer we have had literally a handful of days above 30. It's enough to rot your sox - not to mention rust your tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkin!

Indeed! And I can't get rid of my chest infection because of the weather. Not to mention that there is a metal thing just in front of my bedroom window and I cannot sleep because of the hammering! It's not so exciting not to be able to sleep and not to be able to look at the sky either...
I see somebody mentioned the Ghost of Jupiter a few days ago. I saw it quite a few times last year. But this year... nothing.... I have hardly seen any stars this year... I have no hope for the moon eclipse in April either.
We are sub-alpine here, and usually the roads get closed at the drop of a hat when it snows. I usually joke that I'd like to see a metre of snow fall on Oberon, then they'd know what snow was all about, but in reality I suspect that much snow is probably going to create headaches in more ways than I can probably appreciate.
So, take it easy, and try to enjoy it as much as you can.
Storm moved just North of us so we will end with abou 40 cm...it is really cold and windy but so far no big problems...travel bans are being lifted this afternoon and public transport is coming back on schedule...
I have no hope for the moon eclipse in April either.
