NGC 3109 - another one not often imaged

NGC 3109 is a fairly low surface brightness galaxy in Hydra of which you don't see too many images. This image needs a lot more data but the weather has closed in again so I thought I would post what I had. It's not a spectacular one.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks. It's certainly not that easy from my light polluted location

An amazing picture.
There aren't many of this one.
It's in the same league as this:

Thanks Allan. Being favourably compared with Ken Crawford certainly boosts my confidence

A nice example of a Magellanic galaxy. The intense blue OB associations are very sharp and clear. Nicely processed. Well done.

It's nicely done Steve and well processed, but I can see why it's not often imaged. It's never going to be something that jumps out of the page.

Nice to see something unusual, well done, worth the effort. BTW,googling images generally over the years, your images often pop up as rare examples, good work. Its a public service, someone has to do it.

Thanks Fred on both counts.

Thanks Geoff. It might pop out a bit better with more data but I generally agree. It's not a spectacular object.

Looks like a cross between NGC 55 and NGC 247

If I am not mistaken this galaxy was a candidate for possible tidal streams?...so you could hammer it a bit longer and see what comes up Can you rotate the field to frame it better?

Mike

Another rare one Steve, nicely done!

Love the translucence of the image.

Cheers,

Justin.

A quick google doesn't say much about visible tidal streams from NGC 3109 although this galaxy is influencing the Antlia dwarf. I doubt whether anything would be visible in my light polluted sky but I am going to try for some more data although the weather is seriously limiting what I can do these days. Sorry about the framing. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks Steven. I just checked out your image and it looks good. I can't see the exposure details for some reason though. Can you tell me what they were?
