Ouch .. !!!

Gone and chewed a lump out of my right index finger with the bench saw. Was getting all DIY motivated to put in a bench and scullery in our over size laundry and was ripping some timber down to size when my finger was not quite in the right place.
Spent most of today at the local A&E doctors and then the big Hospital. Now I've got an appointment tomorrow for a bit of surgery to repair the nail bed.
Was supposed to have gone fishing today ..

Kinda buggas up your DIY and holiday plans a bit don't it ?

Moral of the story... use a push stick on bench saws

I have multiple laceration scars that prove you should not use a high speed router free hand pushing a thin piece through. It was a miracle my finger wasn't ripped off instead of just filleted... Doc said no stitches, glue wouldn't work so just bandaged it.

Did a woodwork course many years ago. First thing the instructor asked us to do was count our fingers. Then he said our number one goal was to have just as many fingers at the end of the course.

I had a run-in with a bandsaw at work a few years ago and took off the first centimeter and a bit of my right thumb. Ironically, it was just three days after I won a state apprentice of the year competition. I feel your pain

Yeah, the saw is a carbide tipped 250mm at 3000 rpm, it survived .. just !!

Cheers guys, Just spent all day at the hospital, 7.00 am till 3:30pm, home about 4:15. Read one book and listened to about 3 albums on the iPod, chatted to a couple of other similarly afflicted patients (must be the season ! ) and finally got numbed and stitched about 2:30 in the afternoon.
Bloody hungry !! On advice my last meal was the night before just in case a general anaesthetic was needed ( fortunately not ) so the belly was rumbling bad by the time I got home.
The only plus so far is 14 days off work up to Friday 23rd. Not going to make my bosses very happy.

I'll use the hand saw to finish the scullery ...

Hey, no offense taken for cutting jokes (Ooops ! ) I need a slap round the head for my stupidity in this case so no problem.
And not bad with the emoticon festival either.
I've got no pain, plenty of Anti baddies, and lots of painkillers if it does arise.
But I can't use chopsticks ...

That's great news Brent.
Clean the blade and apply a thin coat of machine oil.
And it's good to see you are thru the worst of it.
You are lucky not to have lost a finger.
Good speed to a full recovery.

Bit 'sheepish', eh Brent. Just the finger... couldn't 'muster' the whole hand??? Not very kiwi like just a little 'dip'. Would really have expected the whole 'ram'.

Had enough yet my kiwi friend???

Yeah, I'm with my namesake - my sympathies lie with the saw...
