SP LD XR IF - Modern Heiroglyphs

Xmas saw the 'Self-as Santa' replace my broken Nifty-Fifty with a Tamron SP17-50 F2.8 XR LD Aspherical lens (the one without image stabilisation- and that suits me very well), and chock full of low dispersion glassy goodness. One of the few times Santa has gotten it spot on.
It was late Xmas day and so eager to break it in, I headed to the local skate ramp and was lucky enough to get the Spirit of Tasmania sailing too.
The next day a trip along the coast to Burnie for coffee with friends provided a few more photo ops.

Very nice set there trev, i had the same lens and sold it with my k-7 and have regretted it ever since, its the sharpest little zoom i have ever used,you may notice some field curvature on flat subjects............but you probably won,t shoot to many plain walls

Have noticed that Brad but, what can u do? Almost impossible to fully correct a zoom lens without making it to dear for the rest of us.
Still, a bit of good software correction on occasions, or cropping solves the issue somewhat.
I was going to photograph at least one wall for this very purpose :-)

I rarely noticed it to be honest, i really miss this lens,i have been thinking about re acquiring one. Just out of interest i put an old raw shot from the k-7 and this lens into Photoshop camera raw and it has a correction profile for this lens preloaded for all mount types, wasn,t there when i owned it

I noticed that it is covered in the lens profiles too Brad, and also in Dx0 as a Camera/Lens combination with the eos600D. That's very satisfying.
I'm not surprised now I have seen the results, and I still get a thrill every day when I pick my camera up that I own one.
Another thing I noticed is the weight of the lens, being significantly higher than the Canon 18-55 stock lens I had been using, is that it seems to dampen vibrations from the shutter.
Also read (dpreview?) that the 17mm is wider than the Canon and Sigma versions. Does this mean lenses are labelled according to the intent in the optical configuration, rather than the actual performance? I don't know how much wider and have nothing to test it with, or ever seen test images from the three that compare them for this.
Having used it, I highly recommend it.

Thx Raymond. I love the trip on the Spirit. If u can then, take a porthole cabin because it's nice to see the water roll by when u wake up. And they are comfortable with good facilities.
The coffee is good too.

Thanks Bob. Yeah I was pretty happy when I spotted those white and yellow fuel storage tanks. Had to photograph them through and over a 7' wire mesh fence. Glad the camera has a reticulated screen on it :-)
