Eagle Nebula in Ha under moonlight

Howdy
I havent shot the Eagle Neb in Ha with the 10 inch scope as yet so tried it tonight, and as nights are warmer tried shorter high ISO shots as longer ISO 400 shots of the Helix proved dissapointing.
I was pleasantly surprised with the result
7x5 mins ISO 1600, 7 Nm Ha filter, 10 inch F5.6.
I nearly didnt get the image done as I had trouble finding the object, due to the sky being so bright with moonlight, I had to virtually "star hop" to it and could in the end only see it in the finder with averted vision, centering it in the scope by taking 10 sec test shots, then moving the scope and so on.
To help recuce dark current noise I took 4 darks instead of the usual one, and did so immediately after the light images with camera at similar temperature.
Severe buffeting happened during some of the images, the 7 Nm filter apparently blocking so much starlight the "wiggles" didnt show up
Im very surprised to get what I got, narrowband imaging of emission line nebulae rocks when theres a moon about
As usual, processed in Iris and Photoshop, resized for viewing here.

It's one of the most amazing images of the Eagle Neb in Ha I've seen I'd say.
Excellent image indeed Scott.

Thank you for giving us our fix while the moon is up too.

Very nice Scott, mine are taking some time to get going. Great to have some imaging while the moon is present though.
I used the Argo Navis to get me on the spot, I know what you mean by difficulty in locating the object though.

Great image Scott,
These Ha filters are certainly impressive in what they can do and they really give images a real sense of depth.
I'll bet there not cheap either.

great imaging

Yes the poor Eagle is flying upside down lol.
http://www.aoe.com.au/filters.html has the Baader Ha filter for $199 but is 45nm, dont know why they dont list the 7 Nm one
Arrr the cloud is moving in, no imaging for some days now I fear.

Just shows with superb optics and high signal to noise due to the Halpha filter what can be done. Seems to me that Scott can image even with the Moon present with that 7nm Halpha filter.
I must get me one!

Another great Halpha image from Scott.

Thanks all
From now on I will do most of my HA imaging with the 10 inch scope using ISO 1600 and 5 min individual exposures as was done here. However for Ha imaging with Bert's great Flourite 300mm f2.8 lens, ISO 400 and 5 to 10 min shots is good.

Bert, you wouldnt happen to have a "spare" flourite 300mm f2.8 lens?

I do as a matter of fact, but Scott has possession at the moment. You will have to negotiate with him. Even a crow bar will not help. I know I have tried. He keeps mumbling 'sorry too busy guiding'.
Just joking.
