Witch Head Neb - IC 2118

OK since the moon is out and the weather's been yuck, I thought I'd post a pic from last week when I was imaging The Pleiades.
I am reluctant to post this, it's a single shot, the only one I took of IC 2118 but I'll post it anyway.
The Witch Head nebula (IC 2118) is near Rigel in Orion and the light from Rigel illuminates the area.

It was very low in the eastern horizon just before dawn and it's a single 105 sec exposure at 1600 ISO.
I didn't bother to frame it properly either, I was just curious as to what I'd capture.

As you can see it's very noisy and I've processed it quite a bit to bring out any detail.
It's on my hit list this coming season so hopefully I'll get a better version.

I've also got a link to one that Gary Stevens did on APOD for reference.

Cheers

Nice one Andrew, but you know what this means. It means I have to get up at some ungodly hour now to try this. What scope/camera? If this is one frame look out!!!

Very nice, Andrew. Unlike many other nebs that seem to look nothing like their names, here I can actually see the witch's head! Spooky!

Cheers Gary,

Camera was the Canon 20Da, prime focus on the TOA 130 operating at around f/5.7, on an EM200.
It's a real buzz going after the fainter stuff to see what you can get.

Yes I agree Steve, I remember the first time I saw it in a mag, I couldn't believe it.

top stuff , ordinary effort though . Thought you would have put some more effort in this one mate. A few more shots to make the exposure better. But then you only have a 20Da don't you

Thanks everyone,

I'll give it another try once it's higher in the sky.
What can I say about the TAK........
It's truly a dream to use.

Subtle stuff, well done.

How did my mother-in-law make it all the way to Orion?
