Had fun at work due to the storm

We browsed the system on the BOM Weather radar site and at one stage the worst part of the system appeared to be heading for our suburb, but then the menacing looking core veered around us and seemed to expand before continuing along its destructive path, hammering Brisbane.

The news bulletins showed windows smashed in office buildings, roofs ripped off a church and some houses, flash flooding and extensive hail damage to motor vehicles.

Hope the local Forum members didn’t cop any damage.

I saw that on the news last night.

Real scary stuff, Hope everyone up that way are ok.

I caused a booboo on one of the servers at work and so had to stick around to fix it.

Normally, I would have made the 4:22 PM train to the Sunshine Coast. But, as a result of my technical misadventure, I got stuck at work. From my office window, one minute it was blue skies, the next it became evil and menacing (my window faces east). The next thing I see, tennis ball-sized projectiles falling at a 45 degree angle from the south. It was absolutely incredible; I've never seen anything like it! The sound, also, was insanity!

For the second time in 8 days, the train system shut down and the city ground to a halt. My poor wife had to make another 90 km trip into the city to pick me up as I had no other way to get home. Bless her heart.

The footpaths were covered in red and green from the foliage having been decimated from the hail. It looked spectacular.

On the news, our State Premier (Campbell Newman) said that he believes it was the worst storm to hit Brisbane since 1985, almost 30 years ago. Even more destructive than the storm that hit “The Gap” (suburb) in 2004.

It looked absolutely horrible and frightening on the news bulletins.

Glad to see that you made it home safe. Bless your wife, its times that this you really do experience a heightened appreciation for the love and care of family.

Was spectacular up here on the Sunshine Coast too - in a different way.

We headed downto the beach at Maroochydore to let the girls paddle in ocean. I was intently watching the storm front, with it's classic supercell rounded and layered leading edge. It looked SCARY. After a while I told the girls and Mum we should leave just in case. As soon as I had said that, the storm literally started vaporising/disintegrating in front of our eyes - whisps and fragmented strato-cu, lower cloud crossing the storm front at what seemed a perpendicular angle.

As usual, as what usually happens here on the Sunshine Coast, the mountain of Buderim had caused enough updraft/turbulence/barrier etc to actually cause the storm to peter out somewhat, even though it was probably already on the wane after pummelling Brisbane. We had negligable wind, a couple lightning flashes and barely any rain until thins morning. Now we have intermittent rain, but not much else.

I have NEVER WATCHED a storm "fall apart" like that before, so it was fascinating in many ways.
