Aussie Post does it again
Not impressed Australia Post. 2 weeks ago I sent a parcel to a fellow IIS member COD & basically, it has not turned up & they have 'lost it'.
Both I & the other party involved have been inconvenienced.
The contents was not worth much but thats not the point.
This is only the second time this has happened to me so to be fair I'm not complaining TOO loudly as yet. I've said my 'blunt' bit to the proper 'authorities'
I'm out the package contents, & the recipient is out 2 weeks of time. No doubt the package will turnup when the fellow member gets what he wants from someone else. If he doesn't pick it up it then gets sent back to me & then I have the 'privilege' of paying for both ways postage..

And here I was thinking that Astro Physics (AP) has come out with a new scope.
Sorry to read about your loss Asi. At least it wasn't anything valuable. I normally don't insure stuff (unless I absolutely could not live with the loss), because I know they make money off the insurance, so in the long run I'd be out of pocket if I did insure. It's a gamble, but at least the odds are in my favour, and I'm gambling to win. With insurance I'd be gambling to lose against the odds!

I have to admit i have never had the slightest problem with the postal service, everything sent has arrived safe and well, and everything received has been prompt and in good condition

No complaints here yet either. About 25 parcels out of 25 received in PC is my personal experience.

At the risk of it sounding too one sided & posting about their service when it only go's wrong, yep I've not had a problem with just about every postage item, so thanks for the ones you have delivered to the right person & on time Aussie Post
I'm certain the invisible parcel will turn up eventually

Yeah eventually.
We had ordered a few kilos of fresh roasted coffee to use at a festival last month and it went astray in the post for a couple of weeks. It did arrive eventually, after the event. Stale and unusable.
That's my gripe with AP.

I've used Australia Post for 15 to 20 years in my business. I probably send a few hundred articles per year. Most articles are despatched via registered mail. Of the latter I have (well, they did) lost one and was compensated for the loss. It was indeed inconvenient for both myself and the recipient, but it's not a bad track record as far as I am concerned.
Unregistered mail is a different matter, though still not all that bad. I once went to the P.O. with only enough cash in hand to send the three, smallish, items I was sending via normal mail. All three (according to the addressees) failed to arrive. Now everything is sent registered, regardless of its value. I cannot afford to have customers claiming non-receipt of goods. Registered mail overcomes this problem.

It doesn't happen to often but when it does it's a real pain.
I always send registered post..it's worth the extra $2.50 plus you get $100 insurance included...then if the value is high I get it insured for the full amount.

Worked in the p/o for 5 years .. and I sure wouldn't trust them with anything of value.. insure it .. always.
Registered mail is a good indicator of how service standards have
slipped away over time.
registered mail used to travel seperately ..at each transfer point it
travelled through the system it was logged and balanced against
what was dispatched and recieved.. Though it travelled with standard mail it was in a seperate bag and was always dealt with first as the customer had paid for a premium service and they did get that.
today it travels as does everthing else and as near as i can tell the only
extra attention it gets is its pulled for a signature at its final delivery point
hope it turns up .. 2 weeks is a while though I have recieved
a parcel from detroit ..quicker than from brisbane !!

That's a bit of a worry, Graham. What benefit does registered really give you then? Insurance I guess?

yeah i guess mike .. to be fair I don't really know what other products a/p offers to maybe give that same level of attention .. but i don't think its registered mail anymore..loss and theft are very uncommon but still
an unlikely possibility all the same .. In the case of a loved ones ashes , gold nuggets, uncut diamonds ..things.. which we used to handle fairly often you just can't lose that sort of thing .. hopefully they still offer something but I'd really ask a little first.
