Open cluster NGC2516

My target list for summer will be easy targets that I can capture quick, pretty open clusters like NGC2516 in Carina. Nothing particularly deep, the heat and clouds won't allow it, just something that looks pretty with different coloured stars. I hope they don't look all too "samey". I'll have to find ways to spice them up a bit. There's certainly lots of candidates up there.

8" F4 Bintel Newt, 51 x 30 seconds, Pentax K-5.

Very attractive image, Kevin. It is tricky to make open clusters look interesting. Good luck with the challenge!

Excellent Kevin. I really love the stars in open clusters with newts. Given this, and some other considerations, I'm looking at getting an f/4 8" myself.

Yes Rick, usually open clusters are somewhat ignored, except if they have embedded nebula or a close comet pass.

Thanks Rod! Hope I can take some more interesting ones.

Yes, open clusters do seem to look better in this Newt than the refractor. Could it be the diffraction spikes?
