going raw! Toucam/Neximage raw mode

Hi all, found that I can setup raw mode on my Neximage webcam in exactly the same way as the Toucam. I've downloaded the software and switched the settings etc and it now shows a nicely black and white preview image so appears to be working. Any advice/tips on what to expect re image quality for planetary imaging from going raw or any traps to be aware of? Haven't had so much as a sucker hole in the cloud since making the change so no idea what it'll do when I finally use it "in anger".

cheers,

i have just gone raw mode for the toucam. I take the avi's (it is a little harder focussing in b/w) and then convert those avis to colour with "aviraw". I use Iris to capture the video originally and have it set up to recognise the raw as from a canon 350s.

Rumples uses k3ccd and apparently that has the conversion realtime!! K3ccd stalls on my machine, so I can not confirm this.

Try a few combinations.

The clarity is much better for me. It took a while, but i am now happy i made that step. Also star and clusters captured as much crisper!!!

Thanks David, I use K3CCD and it's appearing B&W on that at the moment, but maybe there's some setting I need to implement - Rumples?

cheers,
