Another project on the boil

This is another project I am gathering data on at present. I currently have two projects that I am gathering data on but this one is producing the best results to far.

Ha data is 7.5 hours in total and at near full resolution too.

If you look closely at the brighter stars it appears that I have odd diffraction spikes. There has been a proliferation of spider webs appear on the end of the FSQ in the last month and that is what is causing the problem, albeit only minor.

Click here for high resolution image.

A great start! Very smooth and detailed Paul.

I'd be spewing about the spider webs though!

Cheers, Marcus

Nice shot Paul. Spiders webs, hmmmm. Sticky. Bintel lens cleaner is the go. My dark site observatory gets lots of spiders in summer.

A great start, Paul. Are you planning full narrowband or HaRGB?

Full NB is my plan Rick. I find the object really does not do much with RGB and Ha. I will be doing RGB stars though.

Nice going Paul.
With clouds up here I think I've managed 10mins of Rosette in 2 months so far. That's coming together very nicely!

Wonderful, Paul. Lots of delicate shock fronts, bubbles, and bok-bok globules too. Spiderwebs in the optics are a nuisance. I've started to spray water-based spider repellant around the base of the observatory so that dinner-plate sized huntsmen don't fall on us in the dark.

Are you thinking there is a fungi on the element Paul? That could be nasty if it ends up 'crazing' the coatings.
Picture is very nice and I look forward to the final results.

I am thinking that I might have to get the baygon out and spray that onto a rag and then wipe that around the edge of the dew shield. Making sure not to get too much on but enough to keep them at bay.

No fungi Trevor, just spider webs from actual spiders. Being a remote setup up, only try to get down once a week or once a fortnight just to check the house etc and the observatories. Spiders tend to move in quickly. Time to cover up the optics and spray both observatories with a 3 month kill.

There are some great spider and ant killers on the market which are reasonably human safe.
The best I have found is one used by pest control specialists with an active ingredient called Bifenthrin. It is a killer as well as a repellent and works exceptionally well. I buy it from Landmark Farm supplies . It is sold under the name WebZone. Bunnings used to sell a similar product. It lasts about 10 - 12 months at home on spiders and supposedly 10 years for termites and ants.

Great start to the image Paul, Mega data and good calibration should make this image really pop. Narrow band, whilst I am not a fan of the colour scheme should show detail in this image that normal RGB just can't manage.

Great bit of Ha imaging there Paul. That's going to look terrific when it's completed. Tough break about the spiders but if you hadn't mentioned it I probably wouldn't have noticed the spikes.

Cheers

Steve
