Just saw this......

You'd be pretty cut up if you just took possession of one recently!

Just goes to show how much profit there is in just one sale.
Drop 20 % and still make a few bucks. Wonder how much is really made..

bit of competition in the market, (GSO) i suspect they are not of the same quality but there is a cheaper alternative at last, and so down they go,

Agreed. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter how "superior" your product is if almost nobody can afford the asking price, especially when there are now affordable alternatives.

Nahhhh, just dreaming for now. It's on the cards one day. I've got to pay back some massive loans that funded my divorce settlement first!

Oh, I guarantee you they're probably making at least a 150-200% markup. Very good scopes, vastly overpriced. People are silly enough to pay silly prices in todays world I'm afraid.

I agree that the GSO RC's offer exceptional value for money.

Yeah, when they charge you US$650 for a wooden box, you can tell there's a bit of margin on everything... for that money I'd want something better than a shipping crate.

Cheers

Come on Stu,

Someone has to carefully bubble wrap it as well as put it in the box.
That's got to cost something!

I would have thought packing it for safe shipment especailly for such an expensive piece of delicate equipment would be an extra

At least with my CDK, the crate came for free.
Support was overnight (Timezones), all questions an issues answered.
Get to talk directly with designers and builders of the telescope, etc.

Theo - no, you didn't get the crate for free, it will have been factored into the pricing, I guarantee it. The support etc is a bonus. That's why I'm really considering my next mount in 3-5 years being an AstroPhysiks one.

hahaha Mark, I'm not ready (financially) to commit to it yet. I'll wait until I have the money before ordering it, and then put it away in a term deposit until it's ready etc.

I have no doubt that it would be worth the wait Dave, it just depends on how patient you are . Me I want it now.

Interesting to note that all the optics apart from the 12.5" scope are now being made by Aries Instruments in Ukraine.

All optics for these scopes were historically done by Paul Jones at Star Instruments of Flagstaff Arizona

Cheers,

That's very interesting news. Very. I've heard of Aries Instruments before too, pretty sure I have their website bookmarked somewhere, they're producing RC optics for most of the European RC makers it seems. I wonder if there's a drop in quality.
