IAU have gone too far!!!

all this debate on new planets and definitions has reached the stage of craziness!
Quote:
Eventually, if Earth and its Moon survive long enough, the Moon will have to be reclassified as a planet, said Gregory Laughlin, an extrasolar planet researcher at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
now the IAU are saying that it is posible that our very own moon could become a planet in its own right! whats with?

You can call a duck a dog and alter the dictionary to say same but to those who knew the duck in the old days it will remain a duck, even if you now call it a dog.
Lets see the meeting to sort this all out for what it is..an opportunity to put forward your view on naming rights followed by some nice social activities surrounding the event. Maybe a lot of it comes from the desire to say something irrespective of its merit.

haha..yea, but the earth and the moon would need to survive a few billion more years....me don't think there will be any astronomers left on the earth to classify anything..just another example of the world press not having a real clue about what they are talking about...have you ever noticed that the media seems quite credible untill they report on something that you know alot about...the recent news reports abpout mars coming close to the earth and showing an apparent size the same as the moon is a good example

It's no wonder people confuse astronomy with astrology Talk about mumbo jumbo and a total lack of scientific credibility
