LMC and SMC with Bert's lens

Hi all
Did both with Bert's 300mm F2.8 flourite lens last night
both 4x6 mins with UHCS filter, modded 350D camera A meteor went through one of the LMC images, I saw it while I was guiding. Conditions dark for Newcastle. Procesed with IRIS and PS, masking used to preserve detail.

There's a lot of faint nebula in both of those! The LMC shot is amazing.

I might re- image the LMC at a later date and have it running along the frame to see if I can fit more in, especially the bubble I managed to cut off at bottom left of lmc pic.
The UHCS filter is invaluable for bringing out the faint Hydrogen and Oxygen nebula emissions. Bert's fine lens sure helps too

geeessss scott! the LMC pic is beautiful! i can see the tarantula and plenty of nebs clearly. that has to be a poster shot.

Yep there is nothing like a 105mm diameter APO with a focal length of 300mm correctly driven in every sense of the word.
Great shots Scott as they show quite a wide dynamic range of nebulous intensities. Is that the masking or low ISO?

Yes, I masked the shots, in an effort to preserve bright inner detail and faint outer as well. The Tarantula is like M42 in that it has a huge dynamic range of brighest to faintest detail. The Tarantula is bright in Oxygen as well as Hydrogen so I should give the O3 filter a go with it too
