Max EP focal length for Meade 10" F8 ACF

Hi All

I am looking at buying a 2", 40 or 50 mm focal length EP for my scope. I have read much of the past posts and advice given to others about very long focal length eyepieces in this type of scope. These tell me that :-

1 There are no problems using these long focal length eyepieces or

2 There will be considerable vignetting at this focal length and/or

3 You will see an image of the secondary mirror in the middle of the field of view with very long focal length EPs so I am somewhat confused by these contradictory messages.

Before spending the dollars for a good 40 or 50 mm eyepiece is there anyone out there who has a 10" ACF and has used an EP of 40mm focal length or longer?

Get a 40mm or so SWA or similar... MortonH has a Paragon going cheap in icetrade... they work very well in an SCT. A 40mm will give you an exit pupil of 5, magnification of 50x giving about 1.4 degree FOV...should be very nice with the resolution of a 10"

Excellent, keep us posted on how it works out - I have one I use with my f/10 SCT and it's sharp almost to the edge and very comfortable to use and relatively lightweight too.

The Paragon 40mm and the various clones of it are fine in a 10" SCT. Some others that also work fine:

Televue Plossl 40 or 55mm and the Meade series 4000 Super Plossls;
Televue Panoptic 41,
Vixen LVW42 or LV50.

Long FL EP for Meade F8 ACF

Thank you all for the input. I now have the 40 mm Paragon that MortonH had for sale. If all goes well I will give it a run in 3 weeks at Bretti Reserve.
