Mercury 29 Sep 2014

Hi everyone,

My first attempt at daytime Mercury imaging (taken approx one hour before sunset on Monday, 5pm local Canberra time).

1100 frame stack at f40, natural light capture with DFK colour ccd.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Nice image Sebastian, I know well how difficult it is to image Mercury in daylight.

How long a video did you take? My experience has been that Mercury responds well to long stacks, as it is not rotating rapidly. I would usually take 15000 frames and stack 30% or so...

Keep it up.

PS. also have a go at a red filter -- even with a colour ccd, it can help with wobbly seeing.

Thanks Ivan, this is the best one out of five three minute captures taken that evening.

I was attempting to join them in PIPP (same approach as what I've done for Venus last year) but AutoStakkert could not load the output file for some reason.

I may try other avi appending programs and restack with a higher frame count.
