Angry Help QcFocus 1 hour's work lost.

After an one hour of painstacking imaging session with my Dob i am left with 3K sized avi files. I used Qcfocus as i have used it before. Set the file name and paramaterrs to set directory location etc. Set a time limit of 30s per capture. Got Jupiter in the FOV and hit start. After 11 captures i closed up shop, and came up to my room for processing. Checked the directory and all my files are 3k in size and there is nothing in them. Whats going on, what did i miss. I did notice that while recording Qfocus pauses the preview, but this has happned to me before as well when i did my first saturn and that turned out ok.

Tonight everythin looked great, i started a bit late though Jupiter was geting low. I persevered to do my first Jupiter session and i have nothing to show for it.

Please help me see what i have done wrong. Appart from not having checked to see if the files were actualy being created properly.

Regards

I haven't used QCFocus so I can't help you

I think DP is the only other one that uses it around here.

While I haven't used it to capture with, what is your "Capture Time" under Capture Parameters? Also maybe check the "Begin and End Exposure" under Camera Options. Just stabs in the dark here after having a quick look at the program.

Mike yes DP suggested it to me.
Capture time was set to max of 30sec, and i manually start and stopped it before 30s. Because i am manually tracking i have to get the planet on one side of the screen and start the capture as it moves accross. Sometimes i dont get it all the way to the left side so i stop the capture before 30s so as not to get balank frames. Then i reset for another left to right session and start.

Just reading Kens thread about IYUV and 1420 and am wondering if that might have been my issue as well, I set my camera to RGB mode at 640x480. Perhaps Neximage does not like the RGB mode.

Ok i was out last night and had similar problems, but i noticed something. I took the camer out and pointed at a light LED on my Laptop and took a recording, and what do you know it actually captured frames and i got a big avi file. So agin i ligend up Jupiter and started, and started no captured frames.. I am thinkging whats going on. Has it got a sensor to detect how much and does not record frames if it "detect" next to nothing?

Anyway i switched from 640x480 @ RGB to @ i420 mode and then took some captures and this time it worked. What do you know it actually grabed some frames. But they are very pixilated. I did a few runs 10fps 1/75 and post registax they look very pixilated. Here is a 100frames through registax.

Wolfie,

all that sounds so familiar. There has been times when I have tried to capture and nothing came out. I switch modes (IYUV, 1420) and then I get capture. And it doesn't always work the same way

At some times it won't work in IYUV and I switch to 1420, other times visa-versa!!!!

Wierd computer programs

NW have you thought about downloading and trialling the V1 of K3 tools. It's a bit of a pain that you need to get a new key every two months (unless you splurge out and buy it, V3 that is) but that is what most use and we would probably be more help with sorting out the settings using that. Or even download and try Virtual Dub. It has a very extensive capture capability. But again there are not very many using it.

If I get some time out tonight I'll give Qfocus a bit of a while and see how I go.

The reason i moved to QCshow is because K3CCD was not working for me, and Dave suggested this as an alternative. I have used Virtual Dub but was unaware of its Capture ability. I will check it out. Also i have the a Creartive Webcam NX which is very similar to a toucam and the driver for that is loaded on my system as well as the neximage driver. Perhaps there is a conflict in these. I have been meaning to rebuild my laptop os, and clean out some junk that has collected in it. This migh alivate my issues.
