12" dob project

Hi all, i have just started a new project and would be very grateful for any help.
The scope i plan is a (make that two) 12" dob/s (its just as easy at this stage to fabricate two lots of bits as it is to make just the one.
I forsee a possible hitch already however, getting hold of one/ two 12" mirror sets. I have looked online and the only sets i find are either in the uk or the us.
Does anyone have any information, ie web-sites or retailers that cater for the atm hobbyist?
Cheers all.........
Tony..........

p.s. Heres a pic of the tailgate so far.... thats if i can work out how to attach an image ..http://C:\Documents and Settings\ton...ures\tailgates

How on Earth did you get a Photographic link in your post????

We usually just use the 'Manage Attachments' button on the 'Go Advanced' page for pics.

Andrews Communications (Sydney) carry the GSO mirrors and unless things have changed in recent years Astro Optical Supplies in Sydney aslo carry mirrors.

Of couse what you should have done was grab some mirrors from Orion UK or Oldhams or BeaconHill

Welcome to Perth Tony, are you north or south of the river?
What part of the UK are you from?

To be honest, you might find it cheaper just to buy a couple of GSO Dobs and ship them over from Sydney. You'd be looking at $1050 or so each inc shipping from Andrews vs around $830 or so for the Optics only.

The "local" shop is BTOW (www.btow.com.au) and they are up in Malaga which is in the central north area of Perth, around 15km by road North of the CBD.

Best place as far as I am concerned is Sky Instruments in Canada. I have one of the 10" f5's and it really is a cracker. They advertise in the Sky & Telescope, but if you draw a blank let me know.

Hi Ian, i am originaly from the north of england, a place called Workington in cumbria.
We came over in november of last year and are loving it here.
At first we lived in a flat in wemberley, just north of the river. Now we have a house in Greenwood 25km north of the city.
Yes i have been to the BTOW shop, i am now realy good mates with Keith, the pom who runs the shop, a great bloke who will do literaly anything for you (anyone here in WA needs some good honest advice, go see Keith, he will put you right).

Hi Tony,

Ahh another escapee from the north. I'm originally from the North Riding in Yorkshire, though I've been here in Aust for a long long time.

I know Keith fairly well. I don't get to the thursday night meetings due to work comitments though. I live not that far to the north of Malaga

Hooking up for a natter and a beer sounds great to me.

Cheers,
Ian

Good luck with the project, Tony. I guess that 25Km out of Perth should give you reasonably dark skies.

Welcome to Oz. I too am an ex-pat of many years standing (It'll be 51 years on Monday since I disembarked from the Stratheden in Sydney). I'm originally from the Bolton area. Enjoy yourself, mate, it's a great country once you get used to the creepy-crawlies.

Hi Tony,

More Heartbeat territory mate, Heriot's stomping ground was up in the dales to the north of Leeds, which is North of York but really in the West Riding, not much difference apart from the accent though.

Rubbish skies at present though, am so fed up this week.

Cheers,
Ian
