Lake Moogerah Milky Way Panorama

This is my first attempt at taking a Milky Way panorama with a friend and we are both very happy with the final result. We had both seen photos and had always wanted to try it ourselves and finally got the chance last night. We were using a Nikon D-7100 with a Tokina 11mm-16mm (at 11mm), f/2.8 with 30 second exposures. 6 photos merged in Photoshop and processed in Lightroom! The original photo is 53 mega-pixels.

I hope everyone likes it!

Great first attempt Nick.

A piece of advice if you dont mind maybe the shot would look better cropped on the left, keep in the LMC and maybe the mountain with the light on it, it will help make the milky way more the focus of the image,

Matt

That is a good idea. Dan said that a smaller crop might make it look better. Will give it a go and see if I can get the ratios correct!

Thanks Matt!

A nice shot Nick but the narrow wide format is not pleasing. Better to shoot those types of shots in portrait mode or do multiple rows to get some height.

Greg.

Love the shot. Seems a few of us are around the border rangers on dark nights with cameras!
