LDN 673 - dark tendrils in Aquila

This is a lovely dark molecular cloud in Aquila. I imaged this back when I was pretty much a newbie from Ten Chain Hill and got what I thought was a great result at the time: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...hlight=ldn+673

I now have the opportunity to image it using almost the same equipment, but from SRO in California. Hopefully, my processing has improved a bit too. So, here's approx 14 hours of LRGB with a Tak FSQ-106ED and a QSI683 camera.

High res here: http://www.astrobin.com/116107/

Cheers,
Rick.

Really nice result Rick, I thought the first one was pretty good too

These dusty shapes are really cool especially when imaged this well and there are so many out there too!

Beautiful deep colours (and shades!). But one niggle - the glow, especially in the lower portion of the image but generally around the edges, gives it a somewhat washed out look. Any idea what is causing that?

Ta, Mike! It is a very cool, but tricky, object. As you say there are plenty more if you go looking for them. We're imaging a few of the vdb's next.

Thanks, Barry. I'm pretty sure there is a lot of faint dust which just gives that hazy look. With a much deeper image it might pop nicely but I don't think we'll get there this year. Good feedback... I have a couple of ideas for a repro and I might try to reduce the background a little if I can do it without messing up the main subject of the image.

Looks really cool Rick. Love those dark clouds against the lighter milkyway background. Very nicely done indeed.

Thanks, Fred. Helped by the fact that this is one of the darker LDNs.

Awesome dark nebula Rick. I luv it. Your image is in the realm of true art. I plan to target this object next winter, hopefully from a dark sky site. Thanks for the great idea.

Thanks, Elio. There's a lot of dust in the area that was too faint to image and the stars are reddened. Not to say I didn't go too far...
