Another M17

I took advantage of the recent Moonie nights to collect some Ha data on M17.

This comprises 3.5 hours data in 10 minute subs. Taken from the iTelescope facility at Coona with PW CDK12.5 with STX16803.

I can't tell you the bandpass of the Ha filter - its a long drive to check out the specs in the filter case!

Minimal processing in PI - a touch of DBE, stretch and histogram adjustment, some Atrous wavelets to tighten it up a bit and Local Histogram Equalisation to emphasise the cloudiness in the lower sections of the nebula. I resisted the temptation to try deconvolution.

Comments most welcome

Hey Pete, I thought I replied to this but I maybe I closed the tab without hitting the submit button... Looks pretty good but I reckon 10 mins is very short for a narrowband sub with that gear.

Cheers,
Rick.

You are absolutely right Rick

I had the default for Ha set at 600s in CCDNav and never quite managed to reset it.

I changed it this morning to 1200s. Could probably go longer I guess but that is a step up for me.

The real pain is that I didn't pay enough attention to the PA and guide star used between the a last week and the RGB this week - so they don't match up neatly. So I decided to post them separately. RGB is a bit greeny in parts so I may wait for more data this week - when the rain leaves us all alone!

Cool... look forward to the results! I'm processing a Ha/OIII/SII version of M17 myself at present. Having trouble getting colours that I like but I think I'm on the trail of something that will work.
