I had a hammer and .....

...... a jack and a tow hitch.

I've recently moved house and everything is still a bit of a schemoozle - including me . Last week I got to go observing for the first time in far too long. Drove for an hour ... set up tripod ... attach head ... screw in counter-weight shaft ... look for counter-weights ... look again ... start calling self unprintable names. Think!! Ah ha. I always carry a roll of Nashua gaffer tape (ask for it by name!) I also have a hammer, a jack and a tow hitch. Together they did the job of my counter-weights and so a successful night was had. I didn't get a photo of the set up so I left the improvised weights on the shaft and grabbed some photos when I set up tonight.

What's that about necessity??

Nice work David, had you been near Robertson you could have called in here. There are counterweights, a Tak, a 12" goto dob and all sorts of bits and pieces.

Funny story and a great piece of improvisation.
