I have found a source of excellent second hand books at reasonable prices.
How about The Milky Way by Bok and Bok (the latest 5th edition hardcover) for $US3.90. This classic is not yet dated. I found it a little hard to get into, but was repaid by some excellent information packed into this as yet unsurpassed work for the amateur.

and lots of other classics which are still current knowledge, and well worth reading. The Carnegie Atlas of Galaxies was a bit beyond my current resources, but still only $124.95, with the Hubble Atlas at only $39.95.
