Whatis a software insert download card?

I have been looking at the Orion starshoot autoguider pro and the supplied software and ASCOM driver are supplied via a software insert download card.
Excuse my ignorance , but what's that?

I would say it is a entitlement on paper to download software from a repository

I enquired andi all it is a card inside the box that has the address to go to, to download the software required including drivers. Why couldn't they just say you have to download the software from their website
