Tattoo

Someone I know has just got a tattoo with some kind of Japanese proverb on it translated to "fall down seven times get up eight".

Now I know the general meaning, sort of if you get knocked down get up and try again. I told him AS A JOKE "how can you get up 8 times if you've only been knocked down 7". He answered "well you have to get up in the first place" followed with a remark indicating I'm a bit dim :0(

How can I prove to him I'm right (obviously lol) and he's wrong.

Come you smart peeps I am a bit dim and need your help

Perhaps U shouldn't try. He is branded for life with an idiotic encouragement to do the improbable and he may not love you for making him aware of it. Just a thought.

I wouldn't worry about it. You're absolutely right though with your logic - he's the dimwit - lol

I'm afraid he might be right Monstar. We are not born upright and ready to go. At some stage we have to get up.

Yeah, it is a bit tricky, but I think you are right.

I think what Simmo means is

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/

The first time you were born that way, you had not fallen. Then you get up and start walking?? Then you "fall" again etc.

Anyway, I am very sick right now and should not philosophize, but go back to bed. Don't sweat it, it is just a word game and open to interpretation...

And you could argue that you will fall again when you are dead. And that's pretty final. (Well, at least if you don't believe in resurrection.)

Well, then just remind your friend that he will drop dead one day and won't get up again. There is also the other end of the road. Remind him of his own mortality and he will shut up.

Good night!

PS: I should fall on my bed right now, but for some reason I am still up.
PPS: I hope he won't then refer to something like this:

BELT him one really hard in the face and, and if he gets up, belt him again. If he's still conscious after he hits the ground, tell him you've already belted him twice and he only got back up once. Then say, "Wanna try catching up?"
