anyone see channel 7 bris news re: the telescope cafe

I only caught a glimpse of it but some cafe coffee shop in Brisbane holds telescope nights on Friday and Saturday .. and from what I saw was a good promotion for amateur astronomy.

if the people are here who are involved thanks for keeping the public aware that everything is made from what's "up/out there"

if anyone saw it or knows about it they should chime in with more details. I couldn't see anything relating to it on here or maybe I just can't search well enough.

again it was good to see something like that in the heart of brissy and on the news instead of war and politics.

Hi. I didn't see it but it sounds very much like Astro Pete's.

It was Astro Pete's. He's quite active in the astro community and was President of BAS last year, IIRC. His "sidewalk" astro sessions are informative and fun for beginners - I went to a couple.

Yes saw the whole article, some bloke called Astro Pete, looked like he had a cafe, lots of people attending, had some other chap there too.

Lots of people dressed up in sci-fiction outfits (actually I know a girl that dresses up in a sailor moon outfit-might take her along one night-maybe towards warmer months)

thanks everyone .. you all hit the nail on the head. it was just suprising (minus the sci-fi people) that it was possible in brissy. kudos to them and I hope it bring more people closer to the stars.

thanks everyone .. next time I'm in brissy and not in the watch house I might see if I'm close enough to have a visit

Hi all.

It was Astro Pete's at Mt Gravatt. Been going there for some time now. Astronomy viewing for the public every Friday and Saturday nights weather permitting. Friendly volunteers always on hand ready to give someone their first glimpse of Saturn or even show the kids the moon up close. The particular night channel 7 was there also happened to be the celebration of Pete's shop's birthday. Hence the display from the 501st legion who are a wonderful group of people always raising funds and awareness for charity.
