How about an accessory library?
Hi All,
On the way home tonight I was thinking about something that could be of benefit to pretty much everyone here.
I am sure that many of us have those small accessories that are a must to have, once or twice. Other than those times they sit in a drawer and don't do much. Collimation tools for scopes I no longer own is a perfect example. Anyway, these things cost, usually a couple of hundred bucks and you never want to sell them, because you may just need them one day. Which leads to a fair proportion of us owning duplicates of these tools or accessories.
What I was thinking of is a sort of loan/hire scheme.
Take, for example, my Tak collimation scope that I have loaned to Graham. Now I don't actually own a scope I can use it on, but may on the future, I bought it when I owned an RC (or two). Graham couldn't find one secondhand, which is always the preference when buying tools like this. I can't remember how much I paid for it, but it must have been at least $200. How about, in this instance, Graham sends me $200, I send him the scope, when he's finished with it he sends it back to me who then sends back $180. The only reason to grab the whole amount first off it to ensure it comes back. After about 15-20 goes at this, which would take a short time for something popular, the original owner has now redeemed the cost of the item, after which it could be donated to "pool" equipment. Mike could then "own" it and the profit of this could help to offset the cost of running the site.
I'm pretty sure also that many of us have stuff which we could donate as pool equipment straight away.
Is it too much work or is this viable?
Cheers
Stuart
