FocusMax & PID

I'm currently testing a new electronic focuser. As I'm beta testing this I'm not going to discuss brands or give any details as I'm quite uncertain about any conclusion thus far.

Previously I have used FM quite successfully with a FT focuser and a Starizona system. In different camera/barlow situations I have typically achieved average PIDs of 1.5 to 5.

I now have in my possession a focuser that appears to work but I cannot do better than a PID of around 24. The backlash setting of 60 is per the manufacturers recommendation. I don't want to jump to any conclusions because the error may be on my part. The motor is a higher resolution motor than the typical Microtouch unipole motor so perhaps this requires different settings. I'm just not sure what to do to possibly improve this result. I'm also not at all sure how one determines the proper backlash setting and if/how that setting might influence PID. The V curves all appear to go according to plan.

Suggestions much appreciated!!

Peter
