Question Good coffee shop in Northern Beaches

Don't go out much these days and I know a few of you guys live around the Northern Beaches area. I'll be in Newport next August for a wedding and thought I'd make an early start and have breakfast around there. Any good joint with a nice view of the ocean for a 'big papa breakfast' in the area? TIA.

Funnily enough there aren't many that do breakfast with a view over the water.

A cheap one that definitely does is the cafe at the south end of Palm Beach. Just greasy cafe though - burgers, fish & chips and ice creams are it main trade.

Then there's Pronto cafe, or The Boathouse, both on the Pittwater side of Palm beach, but $$$.

Billies or Bumbalino's at Bilgola,

There are many along the strip behind the beach from Queenscliff to Manly, though it's very crowded - you'll have to be parked by 0800 to get a shot at parking facing the water.

The Deck, 1064 Pittwater Rd Collaroy - is on the beach, next to Surf Rock Hotel;

Aubergine, 24 The Strand, Dee Why, also on the beach;

Another thought if you like a walk on a fine morning is to drop in early at the Upper Crust Pie shop in Collaroy, grab something then head for the headland at Long Reef.

If up for a bracing morning walk I'd pack a light meal then climb to the lighthouse at Barrenjoey.

My wife and I like to start every week with breaky by the beach on a Monday morning.

Probably your best bet is to go to the beachfront at Dee Why, the street name is 'The Strand'. Dee Why itself is a hole, but down by the water it's very nice, with a large range of cafe's and restaurants that do breakfast. The surf beach, waterfront promenade, and ocean pool are all right there.

You'll find something to your liking along the strip. We usually go to either 'Sandbar' or 'On Shore', but there are plenty of others.

Another suggestion if you're after a morning walk (or afternoon) is to/from the same place. Go out on to the beach and walk North. When you get to a little wooden bridge, go up on to the side of the golf course and follow the path all the way out to Long Reef headland. From there you can either walk back the way you came, or keep going around the outside of the golf course to complete the loop.

Cheers,
Jason.
