This was a totally unexpected find. I didn't know they could live in saline conditions so never expected to see a Platypus in this river close to the river-mouth. This is a tidal river and the water is still 'salty' at this level.
Now I know where it is I will try for some sharper photos.

Saw the best thing today and had the wrong lens.
Cormorant airing it's wings on a tree over the water and a platypus crawled onto the log, rolled on its back and scratched it's stomach. Sooo annoyed that I didn't bother carrying the tele lens as well on the walk.
Wow, I always thought they were Sub-tropical mammals, mmm, learn something new. There have been the odd Rare photo in newspapers here with the in the Tally Rv, but havent seen or heard of reported sightings for like a decade or more ..

I an 7klm from Latrobe and just discovered that the platypus are almost over-running the town so I am starting to spend a few mornings there.
It's a very peaceful part of the world and, when I am not chasing Platypuses, I can photograph Fungi.

Bob, they are just Ozzie animules I think (but I must read about that tho and see how widely spread they r). I do know that the colder the climate gets the bigger the Platypus get and consequently Tasmania has the largest in Oz.
