EQ6 found a cheaper Source

Hi All,

Castor menationed a Hong Kong based online shop where he got his FS-60c from and so i cheked out the site. And as i mentioned in that thread they are offering EQ6 Goto mounts fairly cheap. I have since emailed them about pricing and have been advised that the EQ6 Goto mount is 6800HKD + 780HKD to ship (35-60days) + they quoted a production lead time of 2-3months not sure what this means yet.

This works out to about $1300 AUD shipped to Australia. Not bad considering the local price is about 1000$ more than this.

Wow, that's pretty cheap for an EQ6 with goto! Is it the skyscan goto?

hmm makes it worth considering.. even though I can't even remotely afford it

Uh Oh, looks like the cost angle isn't going to hold water, for Mike spurning the GEM, he is weakening.

Their price has gone up slightly...but considering the cost of postage it's not that good.....yes marginal but buying EQ6 with the current skyscan software problems is a bit risky to purchase overseas.

$7200HKD + $2820 Express Post plus approx $230AUD Custom and tax and another 3% paypal fees....total $2000AUD.....I would be buying it localy....you can get close to that if you hunt around...yes you could save some money if sent via land mail where you may not see your mount for over 3 months.

My biggest concern is warranty related issues.

I see they just updated their web page.

because its over a grand your going to get hit with import duties and will have to pay GST and the customs duty. so its going to bring you a lot closer than you think. and the 2-3 months is the time may be to allow for the new improved version, but who know, it could also be the time taken to ship by sea as the weight of this unit prohibits air shipping(cost wise). Best of luck. BTW probably no warranty recognised in Australia and that may be an important factor too as it probably wont be recognised by tasco australia, your synscan will come with the northern hemisphere oriented 2.05, you will need the 2.05a for the southern hemisphere. A little birdy told me that the new version 3 hand controllers will probably be coming out at the end of the year, and I can say that it is getting a thorough workout to iron out any bugs at the moment, and it will be fully upgradable from the net, and has the sync function built into the ESC key by pressing it for a few seconds. Good luck and I hope your mission is successful

EDIT: I should have scrolled down to read tony's comments

Tony can you explain your pricing a bit i am lost there.

Edit Sorry just realised the price has gone up as you advised. Perhpas since i emailed him.

The price is 7200HKD with Synscan Goto + 780HKD for shipping.

7200HKD + 3% Paypal = 7416HKD approx = 1246AUD
Customs add 5% approx 1308
Shipping 780HKD = 1439AUD
GST Add 10% approx = 1583AUD.

Am i doing something wrong this is as per example 3 (bottom of linked page) on http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4376

Please not i have no affialiation with the seller.

Your equation is close enough..I have priced it with Express post..not land/sea post which will take many months to receive...I mentioned this in my post...there is savings to be made if done your way if your prepared to wait that long with no warranty....hay go for it...I just personaly wouldn't wait 3 months for something that has no warranty...not sure if your aware of the software problem the current skyscan model has.

Tony,

It is well out of my budget even at this price, i just put it up as there seems to be quiet a bit of intrest in this mount on these forums. Idealy i would want a G11 mount in the future, but the Eq6 seems to be maturing nicely.

The warranty is a major setback on this but this is they case with any imported item. As always one must balance local cost vs actual value.

Regards
