F1 - Montreal Qualifying Sun 8 June 2014 02:30 AEST

Coverage of the Qualifying session in Montreal starts on Sunday morning
at 02:30am AEST on ONE HD.

Coverage of the race itself is on Monday morning starting at 03:30am
also on ONE HD.

Conditions are expected to be fine but it is always wise to set the recorder
an hour or more longer.

Practice 1 begins in a little over 3 hours from now.

With its long fast straights, Mercedes are bound to dominate on this track
and the Hamilton/Rosberg rivalry is set to be a show all in itself.

Ferrari are hopeful bringing with them some new upgrades but Daniel
Ricciardo has acknowledged the Red Bull's lack of power is likely
to make things tough for them.

The infamous Wall of Champions might record a few more scrape
marks this weekend.

Thanks Gary, I see Dan has some sort of issues with his Red Bull, reckons it is not performing like he would expect it to. Vettel's is ok, so we shall see in FP3 if the problem is fixed and then in Qualifying.

1) Daniel wins his first race
2) Mercedes doesn't win for the first time this year
3) Nico manages his driving to keep a crippled car on the podium

Why can't all races be this exciting?

Wow! What a race! The last five laps were edge-of-the-seat stuff!
And that final lap - whoa!

An absoluter ripper result. I notice Seb was remarkably nice to Dan as well, would never have seen that with Mark.

Roger,

Such a pity!

However, I see ONE will repeat it tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11:30am AEST and on Thursday at 08:00am AEST.

Really worth watching!

I recorded the race and have just finished watching it. What a fascinating race!

Crashes (thankfully no-one hurt), spins, failures, good passing, fierce racing for many places and then, to top it off, the final lap to end all final laps.

Even the middle of the race was interesting: deviations from tyre stategies with unexpected results and close re-joining after pitting were interesting enough but the intrigue of the Mercedes power loss and brake failure was like a whodunnit.

It was great to see Rosberg and Vettel both (it seemed) being genuine in congratulations of Danny Ricciardo. Could Danny's smile get any wider?

Absolutely! I was starting to fear that Daniel would never get around Perez, but the moment he made the pass I was ecstatic!

I know what you mean! A few laps before he did I said, "If he could just pass
Perez he might win this!"

The neighbours will have wondered what was going on with all the shouting when he finally did.

And imagine how he felt when he passed Rosberg.

It must have felt like a life-long dream to be in the lead like that.

When earlier Rosberg did the save when he almost hit the wall it was
obviously not only good for Rosberg but all the more satisfying for
Daniel to actually pass the Mercedes racing at the very end.

BBC report Perez received a five-pace grid penalty for the crash.

Both cars recorded 27G impacts and both drivers have been
discharged from hospital.

Also at the BBC, Andrew Benson reports Daniel saying

Hope he flies!
Though not literally, as he did in '99.
