A couple of quick grabs from Wiruna

My first time at a star party (SPSP) at Wiruna - great event and a fantastic opportunity to socialise with like minded folk.
Here are the first shots from my recently acquired pre-loved 1000D.
Omega Centauri has been cropped to give a little more image scale (about 50% of frame removed).
Carina is full frame. I can't wait to do the filter removal mod so I can capture that wonderful Ha reds that I have with the old 300D. Also my first efforts with BY EOS. Luxury not to have to crawl under the mount squinting to try to achieve reasonable focus.

Nice shots with nice round stars. Are these guided or do you just do a really good polar alignment?

They are guided with PHD on my Heq5 mount. As it was a camping escapade, just a rough PA was done. They were only 30 second subs.
Cheers.

Thanks Jo, I can't get anything near the colour of your 3 minute specials!
Mine were taken at 1600 ISO which is the max my 1000D can go to.
Next attempt I will try say 90 or 120 second subs to gather a similar amount of data you are recording at 6400.
Cheers,

Cheers,
It looks like you have a decent amount of data in your image, it just might need a few tricks to bring it out.

My method of processing is to try and remove any LP, colour casts etc, first and then enhancing what is left. Unmodded cameras give beautiful range of colours in nebulae particularly in the blue channel that often gets drowned out by the Ha.

I hope you don't mind but I tried my work flow on your image (very hard with the small size ) and came up with this result, what do you think? It's probably a bit lacking in the reds, what was your white balance on?

cheers
Jo

That's a huge improvement Jo. White balance hmmm, not sure. Does BYEOS handle that? I will have to get the body out and check on the WB setting. As for the processing, so far I start the post processing in Nebulosity and try to get what I can out of that which includes auto colour balance. Then I switch to Gimp as I don't have any other photo apps.
Couldn't seem to get any of the vibrancy and colours you got though.
I guess I should find some tutorials...
I dip my cap to you though, your work is stunning.
Bruce.

Had another go at processing Carina Neb - this time using Star tools.
Best $60 clams I have laid down in a good while. Very impressed with the short plays I have had with it so far.
