My first mono DMK firewire JUPITER July 30th

Hi All, apart from the appalling weather I've been a little less prolific of late as I've been getting the hang of a new DMK firewire camera and motorised RGB filter wheel combo. After a few cloudy night dry-runs and frustration with the 4X powermate with the extra weight etc, I got my first clear sky shots last night with the 2.5x powermate. This is just the first one I processed, there may be better or maybe not - seeing was pretty poor at 3-4/10 with occasional lapses to 1/10 (in answer to Lester's recent question, a DMK wont fix poor seeing! ).

I'm pretty happy with the combo though (looking forward to taking delivery of a flip mirror which will make things easier with the 4x powermate). Reckon I'm starting to get the hang of settings and running 35sec each colour at 30fps is working out OK. Struggling a little with colour balancing, but guess that will come. Anyway, at least it's a run on the board - just need some average seeing or better would be nice

Nice start Rob.

I know what you mean about the seeing up here. I had to resort to DSO imaging last night

Hi Robert

So, you finally succumbed eh! Congratulations on the new gear and well done for the first light image under not too good conditions. Now if I get one of these things, I'll have someone close by to show me the ropes.

Cheers

Dennis

Great work Rob! I think your image scale has reduced heaps though, thanks to the 2.5x powermate and the filterwheel.. the increased length in the imaging train after the 2.5x actually reduces EFL.

Compared to my image from last night, you've done well. My image is bigger, but yours is more pleasing

The seeing looked ok just at sunset (5:15pm), but by the time I got out there after dinner (6pm), it had turned to jelly and only got worse.

Look forward to your results in good seeing!

Hi Robert,

Good luck with the DMK camera. I still think that the DMK will get a better image than Toucam, or Neximage in similar conditions. Mine; this last month have not even been postable, and I have put some rubbish up in the past.

Hey Lester you gotta post the bad ones too or it's cheating Anyway gives a nice context for the good ones otherwise we wouldn't know just how good they are

Looking forward to seeing what the DFK can do!
