EOS-M Moon, Brisbane 5th April 2014

Just playing around last night, I fitted the Canon 400mm F5.6L telephoto lens and Canon x2 Extender EF II to our EOS M (mirrorless) camera and grabbed a few shots of the Moon just before dusk.

The EOS M auto focused okay at 800mmm at F11, which was a nice surprise. Taken at 1/30 sec, ISO 100, F11. The 5 consecutive frames were aligned and combined in Images Plus with finishing in CS6.

The attached files are a 1024 crop and a full resolution 1920 crop. WARNING: 1920 file is 1920x1200 pixels at 185 kB

Cheers

Cracking images, the whole Moon with phase just can't be beat in a DSLR. Mare Crisium was the first Moon view I got through my Prinz Astral 60mm F15 at 16 years old. I have not managed to image the moon for a few years now and an missing it, perhaps this month possible I will have a chance.

Thanks John – I purchased my first telescope, the ubiquitous Prinz Astral 60mm F15 from Dixons in Bolton for the princely sum of 10 pounds sterling, a lot of pocket money in those days! It was around the time of the Apollo 11 landing in July 1969 when I was 15.

Thanks Derek. I have found that with my 5D Mk III and the EOS M the 400mm F5.6 + EF II x2 (800mm F11) will autofocus very nicely in Live View (the only mode on EOS M) but the combo will not AF through the optical viewfinder of the 5D Mk III.

Cheers
