Comet C/2006 S3 Loneos and M104

Is that sky I see outside? Can't be.

Comet C/2006 S3 Loneos (between yellow marks) and M104. Not an easy target for a small scope. SW120mm F5 refractor, 24x2 minute subs at ISO 800, Pentax K-x. The streaks are waves of mosquitoes flying past on a hot tropical night.

It's a tough little fella isn't it Kevin, but quite reachable from the suburban skies.

Magnitude 14.66 if Stellarium is anything to go. One for moonless nights.

MPC has it at 14.7, a wee, timorous beasty that's for sure!
Good imaging!

We just put 200 tonnes of ripe turkey crap on our paddocks. The mosquitoes are extinct round here because the flies have filled every available space below the ionosphere. Even when I take the lid off the mirror on my scope, the flies land on it in groups of about half a dozen at a time. Hopefully the colder weather and the growing grass will restore equilibrium so then I can settle back into being carried off by mozzies in the evening

Are you sure the "comet" isn't just a mozzie on the lens...?

Great capture. M104 is very nice.

Thanks Morton, Richard.

Think I'll put up with the mossies rather than flies. I HATE flies. And snakes.
