Inside M42

Here's something different. I used my 16" planetary scope with a custom made focal reducer/coma corrector and a QHY8 camera. A grand total of 6 minutes exposure (60x6sec used) from light polluted St Kilda. I had a lot of difficulty extracting the fainter parts from the sky noise.
The exposures were unguided at 4m focal length and I had to throw away a lot of them due to tracking errors and wind disturbances.

Funny.. doesn't look anything like a planet Stefan

Seriously though ...perhaps looks a bit processed but sheesh, certainly nice separation of the trap stars is quite evident

Thanks Mike...Yes it does look like an impressionist painting, I'm afraid, but I had to dig it out of the light pollution background.
