Thank you Peter Read!

A fantastic/surreal opportunity came my way yesterday when the great Peter Read of SDM telescopes came to my house to personally instal a motorised collimation system for the primary mirror on my Webster 28" F4.2 truss tube dob. I got the full 5 star service for the scope as we striped everything down to bare bones, examined, tweaked and discussed future options/modifications. I learned an enormous amount and now have much food for thought.

Peter stayed back late into the night for one of the most enjoyable observing sessions I've ever had as we viewed Mars, Saturn and some brighter DSO's from my Rockingham backyard. I am very grateful to Peter for majorly adjusting his busy schedule and going above and beyond just for me. My next scope will definitely be an SDM.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Peter in person yet, but I have communicated with him a fair bit about ideas to improve my home built scope and he a true gentleman and very generous with his time and knowledge.

Cheers

Malcolm

Peter must've brought the clear skies with him, it's one of the few nights recently that have been cloud free!

Hi Barry,
Glad to see you got your collimation mod done.
Peter was over delivering my scope (SDM #56) and unfortunately the weather in Perth Friday and Saturday didn't allow us to give it first light. Peter did meet up with a few of our Astro club (AGWA) members and we ran the scope through it's paces and a very enjoyable night was had with everyone very impressed with Peter's work.
Peter's patience with my endless questions and worries was fantastic and the whole process was great with nothing being too much trouble.

I Did get the scope out finally on Tuesday even it was only in the front yard. Great views - Omega Centauri filled 13mm ethos sharp edge to edge, the front yard has a street light about 10m from where I set up. Even with this I viewed Sombero, Eskimo neb, eight burst, omega centauri, spindle galaxy, orion, 47 tuc, blue planetary.

I'm sure if you decide to get an SDM you won't be disappointed.

Cheers
Garin
