Parallels Desktop issues

Hi all,

I am trying to run the windows simulator, Parallels, on my Mac so that I can run my windows software that drive the camera and telescope - CCDOps, THe Sky, Skytools3 Pro.

I can't seem to contact the telescope or camera, and the driver updater from SBIG for CCDOPS fails. It suggested turn off the firewall but it was already off.

Is it possible that I am asking too much to run these things from a Mac via a Windows simulator or are there any fixes anyone knows of?

Thanks,

Richard.

Hi,
The problem with Parallels is that it requires a Mac driver for any device that needs to connect to the Windows virtual machine. Hence if your hardware only has Windows drivers it will never work in Parallels.

Vmware Fusion does not require this. I regularly use astro gear on my Macbook Pro in a Vmware Fusion Virtual machine without issue. This includes a cpc 1100, aan Ioptron Ieq30 , a QHY5l11 guider. I also use an Sbig ST8300, but then there is a Mac driver for that.....

Hope this helps,
cheers
Gary

Mate.

I used to run Parallels but ran into a few problems such as connection issues and even with 8GB of RAM it was running low!

I am running BootCamp on my Retina with Windows 7 and it works beaaaaaaaaaaaautifully! Best thing about it is I am able to use all of the Mac's resources for Windows 7. Its fantastic for imaging and the battery lasts forever.
