Thanks!

I should be a standard phone extension cable. Just make sure it has all 6 wires.

Yes, same as in the picture in your link. That should also be available, again make sure it has all 6 pins. 6P6C coupler.

I just did a quick search and you may be just as well off to order online. Most places seem to stock the 6P4C coupler as that is all that's required for a phone.

I can get it off eBay. Is it the 6P4C or 6P6C?

6P6C is the one you want.

Sorry to spoil the party, but there's no such thing as a "standard" 6 wire phone cord. There are two configurations for 6 wire cords (actually the same applies for all RJ type cords), one where the pins are straight through, the other mirrored. You really need to determine which type is needed by placing both connectors side by side and comparing the colours, otherwise depending on what votages are present, your astro toy could go up in smoke.

There is an IIS member in Perth who a few years ago was making such cables to order. May be someone will remember him , he was starting a company called something like "astrolec"

Correct but not entirely correct either. There are many ways to wire an RJ cable.

In regard to cables sold to the consumer as telephone extension cables then they will be made to replace the short cable that comes with your phone. If you line everything up with the coupler and the extension cable everything should be correct.

In any case, yes it is worth double checking that the combination you end up with give does reverse the wiring.

Maybe I should have been more specific with my recommendation to buy online. I would recommend you re-consider just buying the complete extension from the site in the first post promoting it as suitable for the purpose. The +shipping may be the killer here.

So where can I get a cable?

I got the adapter. Cable needs to be around 3 metres.

You will need to test your adapter and see how that is wired up. The cable you have is straight through so you want your adapter to be the same.
Pin1 to Pin1 etc.

Thank you!

Well made and very quick to post. I needed to get an extension so I can operate the telescope from a distance especially for solar viewing as it quite hot in the Sun .

For those who aren't very good in making custom electrical items such as myself give coldknights a PM and they will happily make a cable for you.

It beats spending $35 to get the same thing from overseas!!

Thank you coldknights!
