Mars from Melbourne Feb 23, 2014

Well the weather has been cloudy and poor in Melbourne for the last 2 weeks.

Last night the forecast seeing was good for this morning, but with cloud in the morning, so I decided to try a bit earlier. It was perfect at 3am when I got up, but by the time I got the scope on the planet the low cloud rolled in from Port Phillip Bay!

However, did manage to shoot an RGB sequence between moving clouds at about 3:45am and had basically given up until I got another gap at about 4:30am.

The planet has really grown in the last few weeks and is looking really impressive. Some really nice details visible in this image.

Initial RGB image attached and will process and post more results.

Hope others got out there as well.

John K.

That looks great, what a shame you need to keep such crazy hours to see it at its best though :-)

Lovely image John, it's great to see so many of us capturing the same view!

It was cloudy in Canberra on Saturday and Sunday morning but cleared up again at the beginning of the working week.. sigh .

I think I might have overcooked my wavelets a little bit judging from this and other posts.. It's always so easy to do when the detail is so attractive.

Rgds,
Seb
