Galahs and Wattle Birds

An hour at Devonport Bluff with a flock of Galah's and a a pair of Wattle Birds.
The wattle Bird took a liking to the camera and gradually moved to a branch 2 metres directly above me, and then dropped. I ducked rather than snapped. The Colour photo of the Wattle bird is just immediately before it dropped onto the 300mm lens.

Alf Stewart would say "flamin galahs" .. I say "flamin nice shots". I wonder if those wattle birds are same we have here in se qld. (I googled them ages ago but forget their name) but their colours aren't quite so. (the bird I was thinking of was the grey crowned babbler...I think)

You might find this link Ron Knight posted on my FB page useful if you don't already have it.
They are probably the same given the South East/South West and Tasmanian distribution. and the dist. mape places them in SE Qld.

yeah that site I use quite a bit with birds I don't know. it's an excellent reference. I think it's the same bird as I see here .. except it has a whiter chest, and the call sounds very similar.

The same bird can have different markings and slightly different call veriaties even in the same state,but they are not classed as different species.
Point in mind, I have lots of Rainbow Lorikeet's come to my place, they are what I call regular size around 25cm or so.
A friend at Caloundra has the same bird but it is much bigger around 35cm and very bulky.
I was amazed at the size difference of the birds, unfortunately no camera.
Other points come to mind,such as juvenile,availabilety of food etc.

PS the true title of the above bird is "little Wattle Bird" as there are quite a few species of Wattle Bird.

I will keep my eye out Ron, havnt seen the birds I mentioned .. the babblers, since the wattle has gone .. but I will take a photo if I get a chance. the birds I see are have a more distinct "eyeliner" like the babbler.

when the trees come back to bloom I will try to take a pic to show the birds I'm referring to.

ps .. they must be big lorikeets!

Turns out that the Yellow Wattle Bird is the Tasmanian Bird of State
