A Few Quick First Light Images with my 8 Inch Newt

G'day everyone

I'm happy to say that I've finished the 8 inch newt I was building and here are a few quick first light shots.

All taken with (obviously) the 8 inch f6 newt, and Canon 1100D. On an iOptron IEQ45 mount.

They aren't master pieces, but I'm pretty chuffed

1. Carina Nebula, 20X25 second subs, ISO 6400.

2. Carina crop.

3. M83, 4x300 second subs, ISO 1600.

4. NGC4945, 30x60 second subs, ISO 6400.

Cheers
Jo

Oh, should mention, all subs were unguided except for the M83 one's which were sort of guided, haven't got the guiding running properly yet.

Looks good given no proper guiding and also the noise is actually quite good given the 6400 ISO settings. Well Done!

Well done, Jo.

Loving the results you are getting from the equipment you have at hand! (bordering jealousy )

Great images Jo, you are a real inspiration to total novices such as me.
I take it for a 4" refractor, I would have to pretty much go 2 minutes for each sub to get the same amount of light onm the sensor? Just a guess - hard to compare the different types of scopes with different apertures and f stops.
Bruce.

These are really good Jo. Once you have the tracking sorted out you will be getting spectacular shots. Not that these aren't already!

Thanks Rowland It's nice to have it running after nearly 6 months of work.

Guiding should be happening tonight I'm pretty happy as I've never had auto guiding before, all my previous images were either unguided or manually guided, the 1100D is an awesome camera noise wise it continues to amaze me every time.

So am I , this equipment is way past what I could afford but as I'm building this setup for another bloke I buy it at his expense and give it lots of testing

Thanks a lot Bruce, I'm not real sure about how all the aperture and f stop stuff works, but I think your right. Though, if your F ratio is the same, then for the same exposure your image brightness should be similar?

Cheers

Hi Jo, Lovely work. How do you keep the noise down with long
exposures @6400 ? if you're prepared to give away your secrets,
that is.

Thanks Raymo

I didn't do anything actually Sorry that isn't much help the only thing I can think of was that the morning I took the subs was pretty cool at around 15-18C so that must have helped.

Jo

really nice results, must be so satisfying having built it yourself! And yes, the noise at 6400 is damn good

Impressive Jo!

Nice resolution, from your work of art.

Particularly taken with the Eta images, you also did a great job on the processing.

Cheers,

Justin.

I think it's great that you've built your own scope and you are getting such great images with it too. We'll done Jo.
