Talking Be 135, The Slug Nebula?

Hi,

Sorry, but I always like to see if I can make something out of nebulae and star patterns.

Had to have a go at this rarely imaged nebula after seeing Stevens ( sjastro ) image of Be 135.
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/a...e.php?a=156233

My image has only 29 minutes of data, due to very windy conditions, even with the scope protected by the dome it was hopeless!
Still only wanted to see if it was in reach of a DSLR which it is.
Shall revisit with better conditions.

Equipment used.
8” F/4 astrograph , baader type III coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.

Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D, Cooler box.
3 x 8 and 1 x 5 minute subs ISO 800 .
Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker .Processed in Photoshop 7.

Cheers,

Justin.

I got a fright when I saw the first picture, I thought, Heck' what sort of nebula it THAT!

Anyway, looks pretty cool, looks faint too

Didn't you know having a dome is cheating? I'm trying to do some imaging with my setup out in the front paddock and the slightest wind plays havoc I've found it generally calms of around 2 o'clock

Cheers
Jo

Thanks Jo!

Yeh , sorry about that.

Got you attention though

I'm lucky to have the dome but not much use when it's pointed into the wind.

Cheers,

Justin.

That's amazing for an unmodified DSLR shot.

That's pretty impressive Justin particularly considering the small amount of data.

Cheers

Geez you pull out the obscure!

Lots of detail in the first one - better than Hubble can do!

That's a good effort with a DSLR Justin.

I dusted off my old ST-10XME for imaging this object as I thought my STXL-11002 would struggle.

BTW the first image is way over processed.

Clear skies

Thanks Steve!

Conditions have been terrible, hard to get decent data.

Yes nice and sharp, looks remarkably like a slug.

Thanks Steven!

I wonder how many hidden gems are waiting to be imaged.

Yeah went a little heavy on the processing on the first, thought it needed it though, it was looking a little sluggish! Sorry about that.

Cheers,

Justin.

Ah that must have taken a while to image Justin due to the sluggishness...?

Nice job, does look like a Mollusc of some type.

Must have been windy, provided of course it isn't pointed directly toward the prevailing wind, my Sirius dome is pretty good at keeping the wind at bay even in very fresh winds ...I can't imagine going back to no dome now..in fact... I'd cry

Mike

Another nice image Justin Not sure about the slug analogy though, the bottom part reminds me more of a small fox head with its mouth open ... but then we already have the fox fur nebula ...

Very interesting, Justin. I searched for images at internet, and really there is only one. Soon, yours will be the second.

I found it in Carte Du Ciel with RA and DEC from your reply in the post of sjastro : CG1 (aka Be 135). Cometary Globule in Puppis. (ra: 07:19.21 / dec - 44:36). And it is near the region I am working, LMC, and in good position to capture.
Near... not so much, but at the same side, a bit above.

And about the winds... I know exactly, perfectly, absolutely what you told.

Thank you, very much . I will follow you and try capture it, too.

Thanks Mike!

Yep very sluggish!
Boy this is ripe for Dad jokes, in my case Granpa jokes.

Yep, love my dome even though it's old and rusty. It certainly allows far more imaging to be done.

Amazing what shapes we see, it's almost like a Rorschach inkblot test.

Steven ( sjastro ) is the first on IIS as far as I know, love these unusual nebulae.

This would be a good target for your 12"

Thanks Ray!

As you know a country site sure helps, but I am squeezing out a lot more than I used to when processing.

Cheers,

Justin
