Agena Astro in California have Tele Vue EPs on sale, I just picked up a Nagler Type 6 11mm for $293USD which means, even with the reduced value of the AUD, and USPS shipping, landed at my door it will be a $40AUD savings over the biggest local suppliers list price of $379 AUD plus about $15 shipping so say $394AUD in total. Yeah I know all the arguments for supporting local suppliers, and I think they do very well out of me, but I can't afford to ignore cost effective opportunities when I see them.

FYI Naglers are from $293USD and Delos from $310USD. Shipping via USPS is $20USD. I find Agena really good at same day dispatch and have had goods land on my door within a week (depending on day of order of course).

Glen, you're in trouble now. It doesn't take much for green fever to set in. Did you consider going for a Delos seeing as they were only a few dollars more?

I find all the US businesses really helpful to deal with, I think it has a bit to do with all the competition. I even just bought a filter off Don after he went to the trouble to find a special one for me.

Er... by your post you'd save $20 buying locally... $394 vs $374. Doesn't make sense unless you are trying to shaft Bintel for no good reason other than you can.
Just because you can find some in a sale in the US doesn't mean Bintel should drop prices immediately.

If we all play that game it becomes a race to the bottom - as is unfolding in the UK BTW - and the losers are consumers who end up with wages on par with the third world. Economists have been there before and know how this ends. And by the way this country is at the bottom when it comes to social security (pensions), whereas the UK is at the top. In other words the UK has a population which is already chronically dependent on social security, unable to pay its own way.

IMHO local vendors deserve support. Think carefully as to which future you prefer.
$20 is barely 4 cups of coffee. 5 for city-dwellers.

If you are seriously rich of course, do as you please. Until we have a government prepared to address this inequality.

Wavy my total outlay for the Nagler 11mm was $309 USD and that includes the $16 First Class USPS shipping. Now most conversions show that to be $353.60 AUD.

I never mentioned Bintel in my post. Simply that a big local supplier is selling them for $379 AUD and add their shipping charges which always seem to be around $15 that comes to $394 AUD. Based on going through my Account History at Bintel I am confident that the shipping charge is accurate, but it is of course never reflected on the invoice it only appears as added to the total when they charge your card.

My savings using Agena Astro is: $40.40 AUD.

Now that maybe nothing to you, but as a retiree it is a real savings to me, and I have the right as a consumer to buy from any supplier I choose (where ever they are located) and will not be 'guilted' or bullied into supporting a supplier simply because they happen to advertise on ISS, or maybe your mates.

My post never said, or implied, that Bintel or anyone else should do anything in relation to their pricing policy nor did I use my post to voice some sort of manifesto for free trade

If you read my orginal post I pointed out that I do, and have, supported local suppliers and the bulk of my expenditure on astronomy, including all my scopes, have been purchased from local suppliers.
