astrophotography with my canon EOS1100D

I have recently acquired a canon EOS1100D camera. Can anyone tell me if I can use it for astrophotography? Also, what settings to use?

The first question is easily answered. It is fine for astrophotography.
The second one is impossible to answer, because depending upon
what you are imaging, you could need to use almost any setting
that the camera has. I suggest that you get a book on the subject, and it will answer all or most of all the other things you will need to know, apart from camera settings.

Hi Arthur,
As Raymo has said, settings will depend on what you are intending to shoot.

A good start would be to read the following page: http://www.astropix.com/HTML/I_ASTROP/CAMERAS.HTM

Also, here is the table of contents for the rest of that site, LOTS of goodies for the beginners!
For example:
Focusing,
Settings,
A simple Tracker for when you are ready to advance a little and increase exposure lengths.

Enjoy looking around

PS:
If you choose to make a simple Barn-door tracker, send me a message and I'll let you know of a very, very simple modification I came up with(strangely, I've never seen it ever mentioned elsewhere on the internet) that will allow you to double the exposure time.

There is a very good book by Michael A Covington called Digital SLR Astrophotography.
If you want to see what can be done with an unmodded (standard) 1100D, look at the work of tilbrook@rbe.ne on this site-Justin's work is superb!
