I need a lap top
Well I dont need it but I would like one to use to guide my lxd55 mount (hand paddle is down at the moment) using the lpi and guide dog software. Any uses past that will be a plus, and it would be good to get on the net at home.
I plan going to Sydney soon and ask is there anyplace that moves second hand lap tops and what sort of money for a working one that can handle my requirements. Any pointers as to buying a new one and what I should look for would be helpful. Remember I am didgitally challenged so please talk to me in terms a child will grasp.
Any direction is better than no direction so your input will be appreciated.

also rather than buy a new paddle for the lxd55 can it be left out of the loop and control come from the lap top exclusively?

Alex,
Computer shops often get trade-ins which they are willing to sell faily cheap. Officeworks gets heaps of them.

Thanks for that.
It may sound a simple matter but things like this take on different proportions when you are miles from nowhere, and poor to boot. I would not even bother about a lap top if I had decent power.. I would prefer a desk top but on genny power they play up.

How are you in here every day? (if it's not too personal a question)

It is but I share my personal life with the world..maybe others can learn from my mistakes.
Buying the 12 inch insted of replacing the fridge that broke down saw the relationship go down hill considerably. It was a selfish move on my part but I was driven by the realisation that death cant be that far off for me so my prioity could be more selfish than expected from one with it all before them.
She moved out and lives here with my daughter. I get to sleep on the lounge and play with my daughter so I,m here until I get the feeling I should go.. I have been here more than usual because it is school holidays. When I am not playing or spending time with my daughter I turn to the net for company and mental stimulation. So at the end of the holidays I wont be here that much..still as much as I can get away with however. We are friends but it is not the same anymore. I think she had got sick of living with Robinson Cauruso and wanted some of that fancy electricity. Now dont cry for me I am ok and moving on

New fridge
Hi Alex
I know the feeling, I’m pushing 60 and the priorities in life seem to change. There was always “new fridge” before, but with the age come sad but unescapable fact that I’m not going to be here forever. So the things that I dreamed about for decades have became more important then the” new fridge”. So I’m slowly getting astronomical gear that I want – no that I can afford. Luckily, my wife understands, so far.
Living somewhere without electricity, well more and more often I wish that I were in your place. One of my big mistakes was not to buy place somewhere in the sticks when the prices were still reasonable.
Spending my first 20 years of life in the one of former communist countries, I was raised on stupid and meaningless communist slogans and as I’m getting older I find it difficult to swallow correctness and other bull that is fed to us by the government. I feel like I’m listening to old communist propaganda. I miss Australia as it was 35 years ago.

Hi Karl
I had a Honda Genny it wore out, but we lost everything in the fires a couple of years ago, all the furniture was in a shed as I was doing work in the house..well the house survived but the shed and everything we owned was lost..because it was not covered by the insurance, it would have been better if the house burnt down as well as we would have got some cash.. but they were the cards I was dealt so what can you do..forget it and go on.. but my mate died as a result of a spider bite when he came to look at the damage so I got rather down...the downswing in mood that followed lead me to astronomy as my Son purchased a scope for me because I was so down. So there you go but as happy an ending as one could hope for.
Land is still cheap up here the last time I looked 100 acres can be had for around $100,000 I think. That is a fraction of a house block in Sydney so I recon thats not too bad.
I have been 18 months trying to organise a lap top, had the cash and my truck got stolen and burnt out, recovered again and the other car was stolen and although recovered cost me the cash I had set aside.. Still on the bright side a guider (lap top) it is the only thing I sortta want and if I dont get it who cares (can do it manually) I am better off than anyone on the planet I recon..I got 3 black dogs for bedwarmers and that is luxury living..the bed is always warm after I have finished looking thru the 12 inch so life is great..its too short to see it anyother way.

Snakey comes and goes he was out in the shed a couple of weeks ago coiled over the box with the 235mm mirror, I did not see him until I touched him but he was not moving just because I showed up, and please dont get me wrong I see myself as luckier than anyone I know. Its like being king up there with no subjects to worry about.
I spent more time with my first two than any other father and was sortta the neighbourhood father for all the kids..they used to call "alex king of the kids" (at the pubs it was "father confessor") but this time with my daughter Sascha is the best, I spent every minute of her waking day with her until she went to school, and she talked every waking moment (I dont know where she got such a trait her mother is very quiet) If I am not here or astronomydaily I am teaching, playing and supporting her dreams and goals. It is a privledge that life has dealt me the cards it has I feel stronger and more capabale to handle stuff than anyone because of the good times and the disasters. I could not be happier..as I said to Mark (Suirreltape) I would not move house if I won lotto ..maybe a car and a lap top but I cant fit any more life in really.
